CONCEPT

The Housing Project is a collaborative effort to redefine the idea of HOME. As our market economy rapidly changes and our population shifts according to its financial and environmental needs we are beginning to see an ever-changing attitude towards the traditionally defined idea of HOME.
The current housing crisis in my own city has prompted me to reflect on my own ideas of home. I have begun to understand, for myself ,that the emotional attachment to a dwelling has shifted with the different stages of my life. As a child I found warmth and security in the family home, while as an adolescent it became a prison as I sought to express my own independence and expand my boundaries beyond its walls. Returning to a more traditional stance as a young adult through home ownership I sought to define myself as a stable and productive member of the community. I began to develop my own extended family and created an environment that reflected attitudes and ideals that were based on experiences from my childhood. My home, not the home of my parents, carried it’s own values. I raised my daughter in this home and as she seeks to expand her boundaries I am left again wondering what HOME will mean as I enter this new stage in my life.
My intension for this project is to create an environment that will be an open forum for the sharing of ideas, reflections and attitudes towards the idea of HOME.
